What a week it has been.
Well, no, what a year.
What a decade, truly.
Yesterday marked ten years since I moved to Austin, which is wild to me. As a kid, I would have sworn up and down that I would never move to Austin.
So to have been here for ten years, it feels crazy to wrap my mind around it. But having wrote a blog post on my personal website, Laura, Lost in Texas, I went through memory lane thinking about the last ten years.
The job changes, the friends, the six months of first dates before I met my boyfriend. And then the damn pandemic, that really threw a loop into everything in my life. There would have been a time in my life, probably when I first moved to Austin, that I thought I would be a full-time author.
Y'all, I ain't anywhere close to that, but this is the one dream that I feel is mine. There are plenty of other dreams I have that I share with others - wanting to get married, have a better job, maybe own a home one day. Travel, see new places.
But writing full time, creating these stories, publishing books, that's my dream. And I've spent most of my life trying to chase that. So the past few years of just road block after road block, especially this year, have been exhausting.
Truthfully, I need a month off from my life to just focus on my writing and creativity. However, I have just a few hours of PTO after the beginning of the year, so I have to actually work for now.
That being said, despite being so burnt out over life, I am going to get a draft done. It might be July or August before it's done, but we're going to get it done, I swear.
This is the end of the one weekend of rest I have until June, so it's time to get the gears going again, and it's time for new goals. It's silly, given how often I miss deadlines for goals, but they're the things that keep me going when so many things want to bring me down.
And if your job is hiring for a copywriter and/or marketing specialist, please let me know.
But now, a few goals:
GOAL 1
Plot out the high level points of the series
Now that I'm pivoting back to Cassie Morgan, it's time to figure out all the big plot points across the next four books.
|
GOAL 2
read ten books
somewhere in between all the road trips this month, plotting, and looking for a new job, I've convinced myself I'll have time at the pool to read regularly
|
GOAL 3
move my body
I go through phases where I work out for a couple weeks, then stop for some reason, and then try to run it back with less success.
Gotta figure out how to build the momentum for real this time.
|
GOAL 4
find a new job
My day job is basically my actual nightmare. I hate talking to people on the phones in general, so to do it eight hours a day where I have to appease and match energies in-and-out, I just can't do it. So we have to find a new job pronto because I cannot imagine doing another busy season in this role.

We can only hope that something starts clicking, and that it starts clicking really soon.
I will be back next week talking about something else in my past - the original Cassie Morgan Series and saying goodbye to it.
See y'all then.
